Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for the water and wastewater infrastructure,  such as the water and sewer mains; water tanks and towers; sewage lift stations; and fire hydrants. The department is responsible for the delivery of potable water to the customer and collection of wastewater to the treatment plant, city street maintenance, parks and recreation maintenance, traffic regulatory signs, street name signs, and maintenance of city facilities.
The maintenance of FM 487, FM 970, and State Highway 195 (Patterson) is the responsibility of Texas Department of Transportation.

Brush Chipping Policy: Updated June 7, 2022

Collection Guidelines:
Please contact City Hall at 254-793-2490 x 104 to generate a work order.

No limbs over 6 inches in diameter and up to 6 feet long are collected.
Large brush must be at the curb in front of your house.

  • Stacked
  • Unbound
  • Cut ends facing the street
  • In one row no more than 6 feet long by 4 feet high.

Place your large brush about 5 feet from your garbage cart and other potential obstacles such as mail boxes, fences, walls, water meters, telephone connection boxes and parked cars.

Avoid placing large brush under low-hanging tree limbs or power lines.

Collection Schedule:

Chipping will be scheduled every other month beginning June 2022. Chipping will be performed the 2nd week of every other month. A work order must be submitted prior to the week of chipping. Please contact the City of Florence at 254-793-2490 x 104 to generate a work order.

Brush will not be collected if it is inaccessible to the Public Works Department.

Bamboo, cactus, vines, rose bushes or vegetation with thorns, yard trimmings, etc. cannot be chipped.
